What is the Godly Balance?

God has instituted the principle of balance as one of the foundational laws of the universe. You can see it in nature. Life on our planet is reliant on a very complex system of balances. The very position of our planet in the solar system is a great example. The Earth is positioned in what scientists call "The Goldilocks Zone". If we were closer to the sun, the planet would be too hot. If we were farther away it would be too cold to support life.

Balance is also crucial to walking. Without it we'd constantly fall over. Someone with great balance can walk a balance beam. Someone with excellent balance can walk a tightrope!

The same is true of our Christian walk. Life's journey seems like an unending series of decisions. We are given choices to make as we navigate a precariously narrow path. To stray too far to either side would prove disastrous.

Matthew 7:13-14
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

We often navigate those choices based on our assessment of the available information, our gut instincts and our appetites. But in order to navigate those choices successfully we must use Godly Balance.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

The Bible references these powerful, life changing and clearly oppositional forces. Yet we can't call any one of them wrong and the other right. All of them are correct in their season, and wrong out of their season.

"Strictly speaking, there are no such things as good and bad impulses. Think once again of a piano. It has not got two kinds of notes on it, the "right" notes and the "wrong" ones. Every single note is right at one time and wrong at another. The Moral Law is not any one instinct or any set of instincts: it is something which makes a kind of tune (the tune we call goodness or right conduct) by directing the instincts." - C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

As Christians we have an obligation to seek God's Balance in all things: politically, societally, economically, in areas of personal growth and growth as the Body of Christ. Without balance there is inevitable chaos and needless destruction. With Godly Balance truth is revealed and broken things become whole again.

It is the purpose of this ministry to explore those balances and how they apply to the issues that we must face. We want to help you know how to better navigate the narrow path by exercising Godly Balances in every area of your life as you develop a closer relationship with God.

I am Bro. Tony Bell, and this ministry with my wife, Sis. Shonté Bell, has been granted to us by God to help re-establish Godly Balance to people who are suffering in a world that is being torn apart by extremes. We are not advocates of luke-warm Christianity. Rather a rigorous Christianity that questions every facet of life and weighs it without compromise in the balance of God's Word.

"He (the devil) always sends errors into the world in pairs--pairs of opposites...He relies on your extra dislike of one to draw you gradually into the opposite one. But do not let us be fooled. We have to keep our eyes on the goal and go straight through between both errors. We have no other concern than that with either of them." C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

In our next article Sis. Shonté Bell discusses The Heart of the Godly Balance.
